We feel it is imperative to inform fashion students and consumers who have a fetish for fashion to know and understand what else is out there. sjfashions decided to research into in the fashion world of Africa as it educates us all in knowing about designers in various countries so we can get inspiration.

As a result, sjfashions would like to introduce you to McMeka Couture which is a men’s wear brand based in Nigeria, Lagos (West Africa).  McMeka Couture is by young creative director and entrepreneur Rodney Emeka who wanted to focus on the importance of men’s fashion and how they should/would like to dress. The McMeka brand was launched September 2011 and since then as been a huge success on the runway at Lagos Fashion and Design Week over the past two years.

The McMeka Fall 2013-2014 collection is called ‘Work hard Play hard’ which was inspired by rapper Wiz Khalifah’s video “work hard play hard”. The main agenda behind this collection is given to a man who is stylish but yet remains hard-working.

The collection consists of men’s bespoke tailoring with fitted coats and sleek trousers juxtaposed with vintage derby hats (originally known as the bowler hat), loafers, bow ties and vintage suitcases which circa 1920s. Furthermore, the colour palette consists of soft neutrals such as browns, greys and blues with the McMeka Couture ethos of masculinity, versatility, flexibility and expensive clothing.
